The $18M Sandy Gully Bridge Replacement contract was awarded by Department of Transport and Main Roads to Vassallo Construction.

The project involved an upgrade of 4km of the Bruce Highway between the rail overpass at Merinda through to Euri Creek Road.

Works included a new four span bridge with a length of 72m, improved approaches and installation of a RCBC floodway requiring >1800m3 of concrete for the base slabs.

As the works were on the Bruce Highway, full time traffic flow was required to be maintained and was done so through a complex staging of side tracks and road re-alignments.

Associated works included the widening and rehabilitation at the intersection with Bergl Street and Euri Creek Road.

As these works were close to the township of Merinda, significant community consultation and involvement was required.  The upgrade delivered Q50 flood immunity to this stretch of the highway.
