Overview

The ‘Moranbah Waste Management Facility (WMF) construction of lined landfill cell #2’ project, is for the construction of a new engineered lined landfill cell at the Moranbah Waste Management Facility, providing an additional adjoined lined cell to the east of the existing lined cell, which was constructed in 2017 and now nearing the end of its usable life.

The new lined cell will provide a continued waste disposal facility for the local Isaac Regional Council (IRC) residents and businesses into the future.

Construction of the new lined cell will need to be completed several months prior to that date, as the new lined Cell #2 will initially only be able to accept selected “soft” waste to protect the liner from damage, whist the existing Cell #1 maintains sufficient capacity to continue receiving other wastes during the interim period.

The works include the construction of a new 3.2ha lined landfill cell (315,000m³ airspace volume), approx. 215m x 150m, sub-divided into two sub-cells, adjoining the current cell to its east, including site clearing, earthworks, unsealed site access roads, drainage, and leachate collection system.
