The Kippen Street Beach Outlet project is located in a Coastal Management District and needed special planning as it is predisposed to tidal influx.
An outlet drainage was constructed within the Shellgrit Creek catchment in East Mackay. This will assist in preventing future flooding and minimise the risk of a storm surge event impacting properties. Protective treatments and methods were used due to nature and location of the site.
The site was infiltrated with ocean water on a daily basis and procedures were carried out to ensure the work zone was protected for the project to be finished on time.
Care was taken to not impact specific existing plant and animal species during the construction works.
